Game Day Bartending: How We Keep Your Event Running Smoothly
Your game day event is not a wedding, and it should not be run like one. The energy is different, the service tempo is different, and the menu is different. The crew you hire needs to match all of that.
Whether you are throwing a college football tailgate for 200, a Super Bowl watch party for 80, or hosting a corporate suite at a Thunder game, game day has its own playbook, and we know it cold.
What Makes Your Game Day Different
1. The Drinking Comes in Waves
At a wedding, the pace is a smooth curve. Game day comes in spikes, and your crew has to be ready for them:
- Pre-game: Heavy. Everyone shows up ready to drink.
- During the game: Moderate, with surges at timeouts, halftime, and commercial breaks.
- Post-game (win): A big celebration pour.
- Post-game (loss): A quick drop-off, since people head out faster when the team loses.
We staff your event for the spikes, not the average. That means we bring 10 to 15% more crew than we would for a wedding of the same size, because your peaks hit harder and faster.
2. We Keep the Menu Simple on Purpose
Nobody wants a 4-minute craft cocktail the second OU scores a touchdown. Your game day menu is built for speed:
- Beer: The anchor. Domestic and craft, canned and bottled for speed, with draft if your venue supports it.
- Ranch water: Tequila, Topo Chico, lime. Oklahoma's game day cocktail. Fast to make and hard to mess up.
- Whiskey and a mixer: Jack and Coke, Crown and Sprite, bourbon and ginger. Two-ingredient drinks that pour in 15 seconds.
- Batch cocktails: Pre-made margaritas, bloody marys, or punch. Poured, not built.
Complicated cocktails slow everything down. At your game day event, a 30-second wait is fine, but a 3-minute wait builds a line of 20 impatient fans. We keep the line moving.
3. Most of It Happens Outside
Game day events are usually partly or fully outdoors, and that changes what we bring:
- Ice management: Oklahoma heat melts ice fast. We always bring matching, rolling ice chests so your product stays cold in clean equipment instead of dirty mismatched coolers, and we keep them stocked all day. Ice itself is a simple per-guest add-on, so you are never hauling bags yourself.
- Shade and cover: Your bar station gets shade, for the bartenders and the product. Bottles sitting in direct sun make for warm drinks nobody wants.
- Glassware: Plastic at outdoor game day events, no exceptions. Broken glass on a field or in a parking lot is a real safety problem. If you want real glassware or upgraded bar rentals for a covered setup, our drapery sister company Pipe It Up handles those rentals.
- Waste management: More volume means more trash, so we bring extra bins and stay on top of it throughout, not just at the end.
- Power and lighting: Evening games need bar lighting, and we bring battery-powered LED options for setups with no electrical access.
4. Reading the Crowd Is Part of the Job
Game day crowds are louder, more animated, and more likely to have been drinking before they arrive. Your Boomtown crew handles that for you:
- Reading the room: Spotting guests who showed up already intoxicated and adjusting service accordingly.
- Controlling pace: Steady, responsible service rather than a race to pour as fast as possible.
- Managing the line: Clear direction, fast service, and proactive communication. "Next! What can I get you?"
- Cutting someone off cleanly: When it needs to happen, we do it professionally. No confrontation, no embarrassment, just a calm redirect to water and food.
Game Day Events We Serve
Tailgate Parties
Pre-game outdoor events, usually in a parking lot or field near the venue. Plan on 50 to 300 guests over 2 to 4 hours, with a beer-heavy menu and batch cocktails. We focus on speed and outdoor durability.
Watch Parties
Indoor or covered patio events built around a big screen. Expect 30 to 200 guests over 3 to 5 hours, the length of the game, with a full bar that leans on speed drinks. Your TVs need to be visible from the bar line, so we position the station accordingly.
Tournament Hospitality
Multi-day events like golf or conference tournaments, with steady service over 6 to 8 hours or more. Crew rotation is essential here, because nobody pours for 8 hours straight without quality slipping.
Corporate Suite or Box Events
Premium settings with premium expectations. Full craft cocktail service fits here because your guest count is small (20 to 50) and the bar is high-touch. This is where we put our most experienced bartenders.
What Affects Your Price
Game day events sometimes cost a bit more than a comparable indoor event, because of:
- Extra ice and supplies for outdoor heat
- Additional crew to cover the spikes
- Specialized equipment like outdoor lighting and wind-resistant setups
- Longer drive times to venues and stadium-adjacent locations
Boomtown is a labor-only crew, so your quote covers the bartenders and the service, not the alcohol. You buy everything that goes in the glass at retail in your name, and we build the shopping list for you so you do not overbuy. For 100 guests at a typical four-hour event, that alcohol usually runs about $500 to $600 total, roughly $5 to $6 per guest, because our shopping guide stops you from buying too much.
We quote your game day event individually, based on the format, the location, and the crowd you expect. The crew quality never changes. You get Boomtown bartenders who have worked 100-plus events and know how to handle volume with professionalism.
Tailgate Packages: Coming Fall 2026
"Boomtown will also specialize in Tailgate Packages starting Fall 2026," confirms founder Patrick Wilson. Whether you want a one-time homecoming party or a season-long setup, the same world-class hospitality Boomtown brings to weddings and corporate events is coming to your game day.
These packages are planned for Fall 2026, and we are building them with our drapery sister company, Pipe It Up. Through their partnerships, Pipe It Up will provide tailgate-exclusive rentals like TVs, sound systems, and DJs, so your full setup comes from one team. You can explore their current rentals anytime at book.pipeitupevents.com.
Tailgating is huge. Americans spend over $35 billion a year on it, and premium tailgating is growing at 6.4% CAGR. With OU coming off a recent College Football Playoff berth and OSU selling out all 6 home games in 2024 for the first time ever, the Oklahoma game day scene is bigger than it has ever been, and we are ready for it.
